In yet another printing industry merger, Printing United Alliance announced today a mutual intent to combine with the $3.4 million-revenue Idealliance. Printing United itself was formed last year by the merger of the $13 million-revenue Specialty Graphic Imaging Association and the $2.1 million-revenue Printing Industries Association. In 2019, SGIA acquired NAPCO Media, a business-to-business digital media company targeting the printing industry and related sectors.

"Over the past few years, PRINTING United Alliance has focused on bringing those efforts and institutions that are having the greatest impact in printing together under one roof," Printing United CEO Ford Bowers said in a statement.
"We are excited that Idealliance may join us as the preeminent standards, training, and educational association in our industry. Our media outlets and reach into various printing segments, the many events we conduct, including the PRINTING United Expo, and membership of more than 6,000 companies will all serve to strengthen and expand the work of Idealliance as an ‘association within an association,'" Bowers said.
"To continue moving Idealliance's programming forward, this merger will provide significant growth opportunities through Printing United Alliance's robust platforms, and aligns with many of the association's current offerings and strategies for success," said Idealliance CEO Dick Ryan said in the statement.
Idealliance is "the leading developer of specifications and certifications in the graphics communications industry," according to the group's website, as well as a "global association of brands, printers, and technology companies."
The proposed merger will be completed on March 1, after consideration by Idealliance members on January 28, in accordance with Idealliance bylaws.
Printing United is based in Fairfax, Va., while Idealliance is headquartered in Alexandria, Va.
